"Why do you smile all the time?"

When I was 12 a nun asked me, "Why do you smile all the time?"
That is a question I asked myself often after that. At the time
I had no idea that I did smile all the time.
I began looking at other people and noticing that there are other
people that smile all the time. Something in their face smiles.
It may be their eyes, or their heart or the way they stand but it
and it is definitely a smile.
I am not sure why I was asked, "Why do you smile all the time?"
That smile was just a part of me.

A Rolling Ride

A Rolling Ride
Is there any pattern here
anything predictible
any thing that is routine
Only love
Where is the comfort
where are the cookies and
milk
Where is the hug
and the reassurance that
things will get better
Only love
If I could just describe it
I would say it is a rolling ride
up hills and down
and I wonder who is the driver
Look at the hills of golden California
and you will see and feel it's a
rolling ride
I give my heart and soul
and my pensive thought
Only love
That's what it is
leaving everything you can
carry behind and take
Only love
It's a rolling ride

Beachfront and the quilted sky

My beachfront and the quilted sky
My beachfront is in my living room
or on a mountain side or the middle
of a busy city
Easy to hear the ocean waves
and feel the sand between my toes
as I walk along
Occasionally the fog rolls in
It is like my quilted sky
under the covers
I look up and there it is
It is what I study
I know I can make this
I know what's in the middle
I know what's on the outside
I see the stitches that put it together
I want to be part of this
and it will always be a part of me
